Our Story

I am Stephanie.

Daughter of Cheryl. Daughter of Juanita. Daughter of Mary. Daughter of Victoria. Daughter of Usley. And it is with the spirit of my foremothers that I channel the wisdom and words that are the heart of Patterned Union.

At the close of 2018, I set two intentions. I resolved to tap back in to my childhood creativity and art. And I resolved to speak kinder to myself. On the final night of the year, I opened my journal and filled the pages with what I titled “Daily Affirmations”. When I posted the picture on social media with my beginning of the year resolutions and reflections, my friends asked if it was for sale. I laughed, unable to even conceive of the notion that anyone would pay for such a thing.

But each day, I repeated those affirmations. And as the time passed, I watched my reality shift from the inside out. As I focused my energy on affirming the good in me, I found more good to affirm. My confidence improved. As I set my intentions each morning on who I was becoming and the life I was creating, my vision expanded and with it my faith that the vision would come to fruition. As I began to speak kinder to and about myself, I began to extend that same compassion and grace to others. My relationships thrived. And as my reality shifted, the idea that folks would want to buy a paper filled with words became a lot less laughable.

And on July 12, 2019 during my morning mediation and affirmation practice, Patterned Union was born. As I was meditating, the words “write it and share it” played on repeat in my mind. I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone else needed what I had. So rather than recite the list of Daily Affirmations that had been my routine, I raided my daughter’s art supplies and hand lettered the words “I find the blessing in everything” and posted it with the caption “DM if you need this reminder.” And I did it again the next day. And the next. And each day, someone needed the reminder.

Patterned Union is the realization of childhood dreams I didn’t even know I had. Years of doodles, experimenting with and perfecting my handwriting, copying and recopying notes for school not to deepen my understanding of the material but to play around with different fonts and colors prepared me for such a time as this. I give thanks for the power of words to create new realities. I give thanks to God and my ancestors for my talent and the wisdom that this gift is worthless if I do not share it with the world. I give thanks for you and I can’t wait to create magic for you.
